Baby travel systems
are an alternative to your standard pram or pushchair as they not only
consist of a carrycot and pushchair, but also a car seat, or just a
pushchair with a car seat. Travel systems are suitable from birth up to
around 3 years of age
What Are The Advantages And
Disadvantages Of Baby Travel Systems?
The main advantage of a baby travel system over say, a pram or a two in
one system is that you are getting the car seat included. The car seat
can be used from birth up until the baby is 3kg/29lbs (approximately
9-12 months) and is simply attached to the chassis. The big advantage
with this is that you can take the child out of car without having to
wake him or her. From experience I can’t stress enough how
convenient and simple this is and an added advantage is that on most
chassis you can have baby facing either towards you or away.
If you choose to purchase any of the travel systems for babies which
have a carrycot and pushchair you are giving yourself even more
options. The carry cot will allow you to lie your baby flat and in some
cases can also be used as an alternative to a Moses basket. The
pushchair will most likely come with the option of a number of lie-back
positions.
Overall most baby travel
systems come with many of the benefits of a
standard pushchair, they are lightweight and easy to use, with fixed or
lockable swivel wheels, adjustable footrests and a shopping tray or
basket.
One of the main disadvantages of baby
travel systems is the cost. They
will tend to be more expensive than buying a pram, pushchair or even a
2 in 1 system. When buying any travel systems for babies, the decision
will often come down to whether you include the carrycot or not. To
help you make this decision consider how often and for how long you
will use the carrycot. Its often every parent’s dream to be
able to walk down the street with the baby lying facing you all
snuggled up in a carrycot, but in reality how often is this likely to
happen, from experience not too often, if you are someone who uses a
car or public transport to get around, for the former you will use the
car seat and the later a carrycot would be to inconvenient. However, if
you are looking to use the carrycot, for the baby to sleep in at home
then the extra expense maybe worth while.
Overall baby travel
systems do offer good value for money and it
shouldn’t be understated how convenient the car seat is. When
looking to buy it maybe worth checking what extras are included or can
be bought separately. Two of the most popular are a rain cover and the
car seat base.
